Why can't we all get along?
Here's Greg Pike and his dog, cat, and rat that have all learned to be friends:

My first rat used to get along with my dog at the time too ^.^
This is just beautiful!

I think it depends on the dynamic you have with your dog, as in if you are the alpha in the pack, the dog should see the rats as part of the group, because you accept them. I see what you mean though, as terriers were bred to hunt small animals.
I used to take my rat outside with the dog and if I couldn't catch the rat myself I'll let the dog do it for me as she would always seek him out in a playful way.
If you do decide to rescue a rat get more than one as they are very social. I had a pair of does and they were great with their curious antics. Now I want three russian blue ones ^^

If I ever lived anywhere that didn't allow animals, I'd definitely get a rat or two.

And thanks for the subscription and granted access :) I gave you access too, you can see all my past entries imported from Livejournal now :)
I am on pet rats forum and there is a topic with pictures of long haired rats! It's a recent development and they seem to have some health issues, but hopefully that will be successfully bred out and the variety will spread... I would love a long haired rat myself!
