Go Topless day 2014!

Well, Sunday was a helluva day; it was Go Topless Day, a worldwide event. Go Topless Day is observed on whichever Sunday falls closest to Women's Equality Day, which is August 26th. (It's awfully good that it's in summer, and not winter! Brrrr!)

Women in New York City are allowed to go topless in public, but there are still many communities that prohibit the showing of [gasp!] female breasts.

In other news, Saturday was the last day for C'est Magnifique on 9th street. After over 40 years, they had been rent-hiked out of their storefront on MacDougal street, and set up shop here on 9th street a couple of years ago. Sadly, business just wasn't enough to support the rent at this location.

This was a family-based jewelry store (since 1959!,) and Alfred was the third generation. That in itself is tragic; I hate to see these longtime family businesses dissolved, and it's happening more and more frequently.



Fortunately, Alfred will continue running his business over the web as Sterling Assault. The site is under construction, but we can look forward to "something quite cool." I wish him all the best, and I'm sure I'll continue to be a customer.

I like this idea, but I'd be too afraid of being harassed or something. Which is exactly why the day is being done, to raise awareness for that sort of thing!

There's safety in numbers, and that's why I only have the nerve to go topless in public on Go Topless day.

And if anyone tries to harass one of a group of thousands of women, what do you think are the odds the tables would be turned on them?

it's NOT illegal in texas, although you can be charged with "public nuicance" laws. in austin, women openly sunbathe nude in a couple of city parks!

were i to walk around tits-out, it would be more along the lines of "frightening children". ;)

I am feeling less and less of a desire to visit NYC in these days of gentrification and sky-high rents driving out all the culture, heart and fun out of the place. What gets put in its place is Duane Reeds, corporate monstrosities and ostentatious highrises for the 1% that lack any true beauty or welcoming. Just gilded fortresses.

I've been watching creeping gentrification for many years now, and yes, it is picking up pace and swallowing everything in its path. But

1) there are still reasons to live here

2) I have nowhere to go.

Yay! I didn't realize there was a world topless day.

I once cycled through York topless, wearing only a bikini bottom, a feather boa, and blue body paint, as part of the World Naked Bike Ride.
