Ouch; I just saw your comment now because I don't see my own journal on my friends page.
Yes, I first came here in the fall of 1980 to go to school, and got through the first year. Then I returned the following September and started the year, but on October 25, I was in a kind of tragic car accident that left me comatose for a month.
After two years of physical and psychotherapy, I returned to NYC in 1983 against medical advice. It was tough and I attempted suicide at least once, but I'm still here. (I actually walked myself to the ER after I took the OD.) Oh, right, I attempted suicide the first time when I was at my parents' in Connecticut. It was terrible and nightmarish there; my dad was an alcoholic who reminded me of Jekyll and Hyde, and at home I naturally saw more of Mr. Hyde. This was my motivation for getting out of there and coming back to New York, and fortunately my parents didn't try to stop me.
So that was 1983. It's now what—2014? I feel ancient, and so little has happened. I'm just glad to be in the same place.
